1. What is the "Safer at Home" Order?

The “Safer at Home” order requests that the following take effect immediately:

• Senior Citizens and individuals with a significant underlaying medical condition SHALL stay at home and take all measures to limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19.
• All persons in Florida SHALL limit their movements and personal interactions outside their home to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities.
• Any business that is interacting with customers solely through electronic or
  telephonic means, and delivering products via mailing, shipping, or delivery services.

2. What's the best way to receive Port Orange information?

• City’s social media page, “Port Orange City Hall.”
• The City’s call center will be activated on Friday, April 2, 2020 at 8:00 am.  The call center will field calls and questions regarding the Executive Order and City services from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The number is (386) 506-5999.
• We cannot divulge information on who in the city has been diagnosed with COVID-19.  That information is HIPAA protected and cannot be given out.  Your best way to stay safe is to keep your distance from everyone and remain at home, unless you have to go out to perform an essential service or activity.
• Port Orange City Hall is closed to the public until further notice, but we continue to provide services.

3. How can I get information on business recovery and reemployment assistance programs?

4. How can I get a temporary outdoor dining permit for my restaurant?

5. Are parks closed?

All playgrounds, splash pads, the skate park, pickleball courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts and the Seemor Memorial Dog Park are closed until further notice, in an effort to maintain social distancing. The following locations include:

• Parks WILL remain open for people to use while practicing social distancing and for personal fitness.
• Public restrooms WILL CLOSE in all parks except for Causeway Park and the Riverwalk Park North. 
• Sandy Point at Riverwalk Park WILL remain open.
• The Causeway boat ramps and fishing piers WILL remain open, as long as people are social distancing and not congregating in groups of 10 or more.
• Cypress Head Golf Club WILL remain open. The Governor has determined golfing to be an essential activity and as such, we will be keeping our golf course open.  We will authorize golfers to play with ONE person per cart or walking unless otherwise requested.  

6. Are there still City Meetings scheduled?

7. How can I pay my water bill?

There are multiple ways to pay your utility bill:

• The City’s Customer Service staff is available for any questions and to process credit card payments over the phone at (386) 506-5720 Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
• Use any of 3 after-hours drop boxes for check payments, located at the front entrance of City Hall, on the north side of City Hall, or on the 2nd level of City Hall inside the tunnel near the lobby entrance doors. No cash payments will be accepted at the drop boxes. 
• Use drive thru for cash payments only.
• Customers can also pay by mail or set up automated payments through Automated Clearing House (ACH).
• If establishing new service, please ensure you have all documents completed prior to coming to drive thru. The application and documents may also be sent via email using [email protected]. Once your new service is activated, an email will be sent confirming that your service has been activated. Applications and documents required are available on the City’s web site under Customer Service.

*The City of Port Orange will not process utility shutoffs for delinquent utility accounts until April 30, 2020. All late fees imposed for delinquent utility accounts shall be waived through April 30, 2020.)

8. Did Port Orange pass an emergency declaration?

City of Port Orange City Council passed an emergency declaration in the City of Port Orange on March 16, on March 23, March 30 and April 6, in response to COVID-19 (coronavirus). This gives the ability to act as needed to preserve the health and welfare of our citizens.

City Hall Closed - All City buildings accessed by the public are temporarily closed for regular business until further notice beginning at 5:00 pm on Friday, March 20. City staff is available by appointment to conduct City business that cannot otherwise be accomplished via remote electronic means or telephonic platforms.

9. Is garbage service changing or cancelling?

There is NO change to garbage service for residential residents.  If commercial businesses are closed due to COVID-19, they can request a reduction in service. To request, please email customer service at: [email protected].

To assist our commercial businesses through this tough time, we are going to offer the following thru May 31, 2020:

Commercial Businesses with Dumpster Services:

• If the business is operating at reduced capacity (restaurants offering take out only, hotels, etc.), the business can request a reduced service to 1 time per week. We are not changing dumpster sizes at this time. Their bills would reflect a reduction to once/week service charge. 
• If the business is not operating at all due to COVID-19, we will suspend their service and we will not pick up the dumpster. Their bills will not reflect any charge for garbage service. When requested, service will return to normal and billed accordingly.
• Dumpsters will not be serviced as a “will-call”.

 

Commercial Businesses with Cart or Hand Services:

• If the business is open, no change in service, no change in billing.
• If the business is completely closed, they can request a suspension of service. Suspending service will suspend the charges for garbage and garbage will NOT be collected. Water service can remain, but we should recommend they put their water service on a vacation status as well. Suspension can be for up to 30 days or until the virus pandemic is passed or until the business reopens for service.

 

10. Can I still get a recycling bin?

Waste Pro is no longer accepting used recycle bins or handing out new ones until further notice. We have notices on the front door stating recycle bin distribution is suspended until further notice.

11. Is the sharps container program still active?

The Sharps Container Program for the City of Port Orange has been modified to be self-service. Bins will be placed outside the fire stations so that containers can be dropped off in the bin. Replacement containers will be available please limit one per household.

12. Can I still get help installing a smoke alarm?

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus) we have suspended all smoke alarm installs at this time. We are looking out for the health and safety of our employees as well as the citizens.
