This annual maintenance will involve changing the disinfectant from the chloramines presently used to free chlorine. Over a period of six weeks, the free chlorine residual will move throughout the distribution system, while city staff conducts a thorough flushing of the water mains. This is done annually to maintain the water distribution system. With the change in disinfectant, some customers may notice a difference in the taste of the water. During this time, the water continues to be of the highest quality and completely safe to drink. Areas affected by these activities are the greater Port Orange water distribution system, Harbor Oaks, Allendale, Ponce Inlet, and Daytona Beach Shores north to Thames Avenue. If you have any questions concerning this procedure, please feel free to contact water treatment plant personnel at 386-506-5770.
