Due to this uncontrolled delay, and that the 2020 animal tags will expire on December 31, 2020, Police Officers and Animal Control Officers will not issue citations for this until sixty (60) days after the 2021 animal tags become available for purchase.
Please check the Police Department and City’s social media pages for updated information through January & February 2021, as that is how we will advise when the tags are available for purchase. Residents can call Customer Service at 386-506-5720 regarding tags for sterilized animals, or the Police Dept. Records Section at 386-506-5801 regarding tags for unsterilized animals, to check for the availability of the specific animal tag needed. In the meantime, here’s some general information regarding the city’s animal tag program.
All domestic dogs, cats, and ferrets living in Port Orange must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian and have a current Port Orange license tag. The animal license tag proves the animal has its current vaccinations and enables Port Orange Animal Control to return the animal to its rightful owner, should it get lost or is found at large. If you need additional information regarding rabies vaccination, please check with your veterinarian.
In order to eliminate the unintended or uncontrolled breeding of dogs and cats within the city, it is also mandatory for all dogs and cats owned by Port Orange residents to be spayed/neutered (sterilized). Exceptions to this requirement can be found in the section dedicated to the spay/neuter ordinance at
Municode.com. If seeking a tag for an unsterilized animal, please see the section on our website under Applying for an Unaltered Animal Permit.
