Year Port Orange!
As we start 2018, I am left wondering where 2017 went. I have to admit that my first full year in the Mayor's chair was eventful as we capped off the 150th birthday of our city's founding with the opening of the new Riverwalk Park, a wonderful 10-acre facility in the heart of the city's newly designated River District. I am happy to say that this new park has already been heavily used! It's been over 20 years in the making, and is the culmination of many years of hard-work by many great people during that time. We appreciate all of their efforts as we look forward to everything that is to come. We are working towards extending the trail southward from the park, with the goal of eventually linking it to the county's large and developing trail network. There is more to come for the city's River District, so stay tuned!
I also want to congratulate all the graduates of the very first Port Orange University, the city’s first citizens academy! These graduates all showed a love for our city that was unparalleled, and it was a terrific experience for all of them. We're looking forward to the announcement this spring of the dates and details for the 2018 class.
From all of
us who work for you in the City of Port Orange, we want to wish you a happy and
healthy 2018 to you and your family!
