At a Special City Council Meeting held on January, 8, 2019, the Port Orange City Council declared a vacancy in Council Seat District 1 due to the passing of Councilman Robert Ford. At this same meeting they called for a Primary and Special Election and determined the process for appointing an interim council member. Jack Wiles was appointed as the Interim Council Member to serve until the City's election process is complete.
A Special Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. There are five candidates seeking election: Lee Barreiro, Jonathan Foley, Marilyn Ford, Paul Rozar, and Savannah Weaver. Polling places are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. the day of the election.
Early voting will be held at the Department of Elections, DeLand from April 22-26, 2019 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Voter registration books closed on April 1, 2019. Should a candidate not receive more than 50% of the votes cast in the Special Primary Election, a Run-Off Election will be held on June 11, 2019.
