Selection Process

All applicants must meet the strict standards for hiring eligibility  established by the Port Orange Police Department. The selection process includes successfully passing the following steps:

• Meet the minimum requirements under F.S.S. 943.13
• Complete a City of Port Orange police officer application
• Participate in written and oral exercises
• Physical agility test
• Background investigation
• Computerized Voice Stress Analysis examination
• Psychological evaluation
• Drug Screen
• Medical Exam

In addition, the Port Orange Police Department requires that all officers have a valid Florida driver's license, and visual ability correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contact lenses.
