The
Port Orange Police Department provides unparalleled protection for
residents, businesses and property. This is evidenced by a per capita violent crime rate
that is less than one-tenth
the State average, and lower than any other city in Volusia County with a
population over 56,000. Eighty-six sworn officers, 6 sworn part time
officers, 21 non-sworn employees and
more than 40 VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) provide law-enforcement and
animal control services throughout the City of Port Orange. As
a pro-active and community-oriented agency, the Department subscribes to a
philosophy of "community policing". By giving careful consideration to
each reported crime incident, the Department is able to maintain an accurate
reading on the concerns of local residents. Officers are trained to be
client-oriented and to forge close bonds throughout the community.

Offender Registry |

The Florida
Department of Law Enforcement provides a database containing
public record information on offenders classified as sexual
predators and sexual offenders under Florida law because of a
conviction for a sex-related crime and/or a specified crime
against children. This information is made available to
interested citizens to help them educate themselves about the
possible presence of such offenders in their local
communities. |

Accreditation |
| On Saturday, July 28th 2007,
the Port Orange Police Department was recognized by the
Commission for Accredited Law Enforcement Agencies in
Montreal, Canada as having met the requirements for
agency accreditation. The Department is the 1st municipal
agency in Volusia County to achieve this prestigious
certification. |
