Port Orange Police Explorers Post #445
The
mission of the Port Orange Police Explorers is to provide in-depth, first hand
experience into the fields of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
This will be accomplished by the utilization of classroom presentations,
practical field exercises and other training aids. Explorers of the Post shall
serve the public and the Port Orange Police Department and all its employees.
Police
Explorers assist in various community functions, such as directing traffic at
City Center functions, parking cars during holiday parades and special events,
providing bailiff functions for the Teen Court program in DeLand, etc. The Post
is chartered through the Boy Scouts of America and is intended for the benefit
of young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21 years, who otherwise
qualify for membership in the organization.
Members of the Post are eligible to enroll in
Criminal Justice Operations I and II, offered at Spruce Creek High School and
Atlantic High School. Class meetings are after school, either at the Police
Department or the Police Athletic League center. Students
enrolled in either class are eligible to receive high school credit in addition
to documented community service for hours worked as an Explorer.
