EQUIPMENT
Officers
are provided with all necessary uniforms and equipment, requiring virtually no
out-of-pocket expenditures other than for specialty items, such as a backup
weapon or Stinger flashlight. The Department issued weapon is a Glock .40
caliber semi-automatic handgun (model 22). Officers are provided with necessary
footwear, protective vests, complementary uniform cleaning, portable radio, and
up to 50 rounds of practice ammunition per month.
COLT AR-15 PATROL RIFLE
The
Port Orange Police Department maintains a modern patrol fleet, including model
year 2007 and 2008 Ford Crown Victoria's, Chevrolet Impalas and Tahoe vehicles. Our mobile data terminals
allow officers to complete computer generated reports in the field, in addition
to wireless access to state and federal driving, vehicle registration and warrant
files. This system also has GPS capabilities with full city mapping. The
new Police Station construction is currently in progress. The new
building will provide needed space for our rapidly growing department. Target
completion estimate is for winter of 2009.
