CRIME INFORMATION
This section of the Port Orange Police Department
website is designed to provide citizens with information concerning topics
relating to crime reporting and resolution. The following topics contained in
this section and a brief description about what information can be found within are
as follows:
Crime Stoppers:
Provides information on the Crime Stoppers of Volusia and Flagler Counties
program. Also provided is an email link to the Special Investigations Unit of
the Port Orange Police Department for individuals who wish to anonymously
provide information on crimes directly to the department.
Reporting Crimes:
Provides information regarding the various options available to citizens to
report a crime. One reporting option, a Citizen Crime Report, can be downloaded
directly off this site and mailed in without having to make direct contact with the
Department. Please check the listed criteria for using this option. An
explanation is also provided concerning the various enforcement options
available to officers when a crime has been detected. Provides a
list of frequently asked questions concerning the law and services
performed by the Port Orange Police Department.
The Justice Process:
Provides an informative overview of the criminal justice process, from the
detection of a crime to sentencing.
Prescription Fraud:
Provides information concerning problems involving prescription fraud,
applicable Florida Statutes relating to prescription fraud, and the different
schedules of controlled substances. Includes a direct email link to the Special
Investigations Unit for individuals having information concerning elicit drug
activity.
Uniform Crime Report:
Provides various statistical information regarding crime in the City of Port
Orange. Also available for download is the Uniform Crime Report in its entirety,
which is filed with
the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Domestic Violence:
Provides valuable information concerning domestic violence, including how the
law can help you, the process for obtaining an injunction for protection, and
various resources available for victims.
Court Preparation:
Cases can often be decided based on subtle events that happen during witness
testimony, and the credibility afforded by a jury to a witness' statements is
crucial. This area provides witnesses and victims involved in criminal trials
with helpful hints regarding their appearance and upcoming testimony.
Victim's Rights:
Introduces the Port Orange Police Department's Victim Advocate program. Provides
information on your rights as a victims of crime, resources available for
assistance, and how the Port Orange Police Department can help.
Stolen Property:
The
Florida Department of Law Enforcement, in conjunction with the Florida Sheriffs
Association, Florida Police Chiefs Association, and local law enforcement
agencies, is placing Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) “Hot Files” on
the Internet in an effort to solicit public support in locating stolen property,
wanted persons and missing persons.
This section provides additional information and a link to the FCIC Public
Access System.
Sexual
Predator/Offender Registry:
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement provides a database containing public
record information on offenders classified as sexual predators and sexual
offenders under Florida law because of a conviction for a sex-related crime
and/or a specified crime against children. This information is made available to
interested citizens to help them educate themselves about the possible presence
of such offenders in their local communities. The Volusia County Sheriff's
Office provides a quick reference for all registered sexual
predators in Volusia County and Absconded
Sex Offenders.
Identity
Theft: The Florida
Attorney General's Office has developed a centralized "one-stop" resource
center for victims of identity theft in Florida. Individuals in other states
who had their personal information fraudulently used in the state of Florida
will also find this resource useful.
