Chief GERALD M. MONAHAN, JR.
Gerald
Monahan, Jr. was sworn in as the Port Orange Police Department's Chief of Police
in August 1999. He is formerly from Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he was Police
Chief since 1996, retiring in July 1999 culminating a twenty-nine year career.
He is a member of the 24th Congressional District's Homeland
Security and Public Safety Advisory Council and has also been appointed by
Governor Jeb Bush to serve as a Commissioner on the Criminal Justice Standards
and Training Commission.
Chief
Monahan is a graduate of Kutztown University and holds a Masters Degree in
Political Science. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Law
Enforcement Executive Development Academy and a former member of the
Pennsylvania Municipal Officers Education and Training Commission. His
continuing education includes studies in law, psychology, organized crime and
terrorism.
He is a life member of the International Association of Chiefs
of Police and the Pennsylvania Police Chief's Association. He is also on the
Board of Directors of the Florida Police Chiefs Association and Volusia County
Police Chiefs and is active in the Port Orange community.
