Life Insurance
The City of Port Orange will enable the
employees to insure themselves under a group life insurance plan with the amount
available being one times base annual salary rounded to the next higher
thousand. The employer will pay the premium.
Pension Plan
The Port Orange Police Department operates a
private pension fund. The City of Port Orange maintains the actuarial soundness
of the plan, with employees contributing only ½ of one percent annual salary.
Highlights of the plan are listed below.

3% Salary
Multiplier: Employees are vested at 10 years, and may collect the
salary benefit without penalty at age 48.The annual salary benefit is calculated by
multiplying 3% times the years of service, times the average of the highest three
years of salary. |

20 & Out: Employees
with 20 years of service may collect the salary benefit regardless of age.
In addition, there is a monthly medical stipend equaling $20 times the years
of service, not to exceed $600 per month. A 3% annual COLA is awarded at age
59. With 25 years of service, the COLA is awarded 5 years after separation,
provided the employee is at least 45 years of age. |

Drop Plan:
Vested employees may participate in a drop plan for up to five years. |

Prior Credited
Service Buy-Back: Employees may buy back up to 4 years of prior
military or full-time law enforcement service, provided such service is not
associated with another retirement fund. |
Vacation
Full-time patrol officers working 84 hours
bi-weekly will earn a minimum of 100 hours vacation time annually.
