Division Chief Dana Carter

TRAINING

Division Chief Dana Carter is a veteran of Port Orange Fire & Rescue. During his career, Chief Carter has served in various capacities. This most recent assignment utilizes his outstanding leadership qualities. The Training Division is responsible for providing critical information and experiences to the members of Port Orange Fire Rescue so that we can be better prepared for any event that occurs not only in Port Orange and in our neighboring communities as well.

Fire Fighters must posses certain knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform emergency operations where lives are at stake. Through the Training Division our fire fighters receive training in areas such as weapons of mass destruction, Hazardous materials, Incident command systems, fire tactics, and confined space emergencies. Our fire fighters participate in an enormous amount of training to improve psychomotor skills.

One of the most crucial elements of a firefighter’s training regime is physical fitness. Surprisingly in many Departments, this type of training is often overlooked. Fitness training has been proven to reduce the number of and severity of injuries. Port Orange Firefighters are required to participate in a physical fitness program. Chief Carter spearheaded a Department wellness program and continues to find ways to keep Port Orange Fire-Rescue personnel safe and well-trained.
