Out & About
The Port Orange City Council Members are active in the community. From events, meetings, and ribbon ceremonies Council Members are out and about and here are photos of those events.
Recently Port Orange Govt. TV (pogTV) held the first annual pogTV Film Festival. Nine short films submitted by students from University of Central Florida, Stetson University, Mainland High School, and Spruce Creek High School were ranked by judges from local film schools. In the photo below, from left to right, Vice Mayor Martin, Council members Pohlmann and Kennedy, Mayor Green and Council member Steindoerfer pose with 2nd Place High School winner Gina DeJesus. 
In February 2008, members of the Port Orange City Council along with Volusia County Council members joined CBL Associates at the groundbreaking for the Pavilion of Port Orange. This new open lifestyle center located on Williamson Blvd. north of Taylor Road will bring shopping and restaurant opportunities to Port Orange. 
This past November, Vice Mayor Mary Martin had the opportunity to address a Turkish delegation of public administers who were visiting communities in Central Florida. The delegation visit to Port Orange was organized by the University of Central Florida Public Administration Department. 
Recently, Mayor Green and the City Council cut the ribbon on the opening Unit 2 at the Eastport Business Park. Located on Spruce Creek Road, the ceremony dedicated the park’s new road that connects Unit 1 (13 lots) and with Commonwealth Blvd., and opened Unit 2 which offers 7 additional lots for industrial and economic development uses. Within Unit 2, construction of a building on Lot 7 is nearly complete. The building is for Pharmex, a division of TimeMed. In the first photo, members of the City Council are joined by project consultants, City Staff, and the staff of the county’s Business Development Partnership. Representatives from TimeMed are shown in the second photo greeting Mayor Green. 

Family Days is the annual Community Block Party where everyone joins together to celebrate Port Orange. In the photo, the City Council, from left to right Council Member Kennedy, Vice Mayor Martin, Council Member Pohlmann, and Mayor Green, walk in the Family Day’s Parade. 
Port Orange has been active in promoting the redevelopment of Port Orange’s original downtown. In the photo below, Mayor Green presents a grant check to Daytona Auto Tint that assisted their renovation work of their building along US 1 meet the Town Center Redevelopment District architectural and color requirements. 
In January 2007, Port Orange won a couple of awards at the Volusia League of Cities reception. Vice Mayor Mary Martin received the League’s Elected Official of the Year Award Silver Star Award. Here is Vice Mayor Martin with Bruce Teeters.
Council Member Dennis Kennedy (second from the left) accepts the League’s Cities Coming Together Award Golden Eagle Award for the Regional Communication Center (RCC) 911 Dispatch. Port Orange shared the award with the cities of Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach. The three cities operate the RCC dispatch call center that handles 911 calls in the three cities.
